Advice - Bruschutters & Strimmers
Brushcutters & Strimmers
Brushcutters and strimmers which do you need?
There are a few differences and things to consider when buying a grass strimmer or brushcutter. Your decision in which machine to buy revolves around what work you have to do.
If it's just a bit of light grass trimming around borders and flower beds then we would recommend a bent shaft strimmer these come complete with a flexible internal drive shaft as a result the machine doesn't require a head mounted gearbox and therefore reduces cost of production making the machines more affordable to the consumer. This does mean however that you are limited to what cutting tool you use to tackle your grass, you are not able to use a metal blade on a bent shaft machine and we do recommend using a thinner nylon line, as too thick it can cause too much drag and put the machine under undue stress.
If the bent shaft doesn't meet your requirements then we move onto straight shaft machines. These come with a gearbox on the end of the shaft which translates the power from the engine down the drive shaft to the cutting tool. This means the drive shaft isn't put under as much stress and enables the user to fit a wider range of cutting tools to the machine including thicker nylon line and metal blades, depending on the toughness of growth the user is trying to tackle. These machines are also better suited to frequent/longer periods of use.
