Quality suede leather chainsaw boots from Stihl in black with a Gore Tex lining. This is my second pair, bought to supplement the first pair, so able to review these boots after two years of use including one of the wettest winters in years. They coped admirably.
First off, they are really comfortable to wear, however, they take a while to break in, and it took a while before i was happy to drive in them.
Ensure during the breaking in period that you centre the tongue and fold in the leather bellows. I did not for my first pair, and it has affected fit, and for a while had me questioning just how waterproof they where. My fault. Once i started to readdress this and concentrated on getting them back to shape they took everything last years wet, muddy winter threw at them. Wading through foot deep puddles, slopping around in muddy tracks and navigating wet bilberry covered slopes it was the first time after years of leather chainsaw boots that i had constantly dry feet.
Being my first Gore Tex boots, i did not appreciate how cold in winter, and how hot in summer they can be, nor that socks with at least some Merino wool in are best to wear with Gore Tex. Your feet and the Gore Tex membrane both need to breathe together. Keep hold of a leather pair of boots for summer.
The soles have great grip for hilly terrain and clambering over wet, felled trees.
Occasionally give them a clean and a spritz of something like Grangers Footwear Repel Plus rather than a wax or dubbin.
Finally, they are a lovely good old plain black in colour, rather than the clown show colours widely available from other manufacturers. I contemplated another make, but realised i would be too distracted by my clown boots and would be too busy laughing or wanting to find something to juggle, rather than concentrating on where my saw was.
Radmore and Tucker, as ever, were great on price, speed of delivery, and packaging.
