Wanted an upgrade for a hand axe that I`ve been using over 30 years mainly for kindling and small branch removal. Bought one of these because I liked the head and handle shape and size. It came with a poorly sharpened head on a decent hickory handle. Wasn`t keen on all the paint and writing covering it so stripped it back to bare steel and hickory with a palm sander – 120 then 240 grit. Used wire wool and metal polish on steel head to get a near mirror finish then ground a proper edge on it. Oiled handle. Total time spent – 2 hours.
It now looks and feels like a high quality axe, will slice paper on edge at a stroke and holds that edge well. As good as any top branded axe both in appearance and function.
Proper job.
