Cutting variation (R)
The R variations of Stihl hedge trimmers are designed specifically for large volume cutting. They feature a cutting blade with wide tooth spacing and longer tooth height. The gearing allows a high cutting power at a medium stroke rate. This R variation provide the possibility of cutting thicker branches and completing clearing work faster. Tip protection
Come with tip protection as standard, which prevents damage to both the blade and the gear, but also to things that lie near the hedgerow (e.g. natural stone wall). It also makes it easier to cut ground cover plants.
Screw-on cut protection
Reduces risk of injury to the user and guarantees easy replacement when worn.
Double sided cutting blades
STIHL hedge trimmers with double-sided cutting blades cut both vertically and horizontally.
Swivelling multi-function handle
The handle rotates by 90° to the left and right, ensuring the best cutting position at all times.
Adjustable blade stroke
The blade stroke is 3-setting adjustable. This provides the ideal blade speed for any task. The blade stroke is adjusted using the control cockpit on the rotary handle. The control cockpit rotates with the handle, so that the button is always within easy reach regardless of the selected rotary handle setting.

The STIHL electric motor (EC) is extremely energy efficient, lightweight and compact. It runs quietly, generates very low vibrations and does not require servicing.

I purchased the Stihl HSA 130R together with AP300S Battery and AP Holster from Radmore & Tucker as they were the best price I could find. Delivery was surprisingly fast (Stihl kit sometimes seems to be in short supply).
I have a long/large mixed field hedge (hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel etc) so I went for the HSA130R because the “Tooth” spacing is larger at 38mm compared to 30mm on the HSA130T.
While the “Stroke Rate” on the HSA130R is just 2800rpm compared to 4400rpm for the HSA130T I found that the HSA130R handled the mixed hedge easily.
The AP300S Battery is “HEAVY!” but using it with the AP Holster hanging behind me on a strong belt I managed OK. Having the Trimmer attached to the holster via a thick cable took a little getting used to and having to unplug the cable whenever I needed to move my tripod ladders was a bit of a pain but still much better than having the battery built into the Trimmer.
Verdict – Excellent on first use.

Very pleased with this Stihl 130R cordless chain saw. Much easier to use without the heavy AP Battery. Excellent quality of build and performance. I have managed to slice through the stems of sizeable quickthorn and Conifer hedging with much less effort than other AP powered Stihl hedge trimmers. Great addition to my Still armoury and able to use existing power unit!
Very competitive price combined with fast efficient delivery makes this a winner!
