All carbide sizes fit this same tool – additional carbide cutters are interchangeable.
Most chains come in 3 standard sizes. Typically, chain size is relative to saw size. Larger more powerful saws use large chain while smaller saws use small chain. If you don’t know what chain your saw has look on the bar for the indicated chain size (pitch). The most common sizes are listed below with the related carbide size.
- 7/32″ – 3/8 pitch chain as well as .404 pitch chain
- 13/64″ – Stihl 3/8 pitch chains
- 3/16″ – .325 pitch chain
- 5/32″ – 3/8 small Low Profile chain, Picco, and 1/4 pitch
7/32″ = 5.5 mm
13/64″ = 5.2mm
3/16″ = 4.8 mm
5/32″ = 4.0 mm
Carbides will last a minimum of 40+ Sharpenings, longer with careful use.

Have been thinking for a while about getting the Timberline chain sharpener, now I have it I wish I had bitten the bullet and purchased sooner. It is so easy to use and does a very good job of sharpening your chain it is very precise and all the angles are the same and once you have used a couple of times it is quite quick to do. Yes it is quite expensive but as it only takes what is needed off the chain it should make a chain last longer also I think I get more cutting done per sharpen so yes it will pay for itself fairly quickly. The best review that I can give a retailer is to return to them which I do with Radmore and Tucker.

Great product! Very easy to use and very quick to sharpen your chain, puts a razor sharp edge on the cutter. I’ve tried it on a 3/8 and 3/8 small with separate cutters and it works a charm. Might not get the finesse finish to the gullet a pro would with the hand file , but perfect for a novice like myself.
